On August 26, 2023, His Majesty King Edmund K. Paki-Silva II, Sovereign Monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, released a moving royal letter titled A King Never Forgets His Task.

In his message, the King stood in solemn silence, honoring the lives lost in the Lahaina fire at Maui. He acknowledged the profound grief carried by the Hawaiian people—the kupuna (elders) and keiki (children) now gone, whose spirits have returned to the ʻāina and whose memory lives within us forever.

“They are part of us now and forever and will never be forgotten.”

With deep reverence, the King declared that Lahaina is and will remain sacred ground. He named it Ka Wahi o nā ʻUhane — The Place of Souls — to stand in perpetuity as a memorial for all who perished in Lahaina, all harmed by colonialism, and all whose lives were taken unjustly. This sacred declaration enshrines Lahaina as a place of remembrance, freedom, and peace.

King Edmund reaffirmed his sacred duty: to seek truth, bring justice, and protect the people of Hawaiʻi. He shared his royal genealogy tracing back to the ancient high chiefs of Maui and the divine line of Kamehameha Nui ʻAi Lūʻau, affirming his rightful role as Aliʻi Nui Mōʻī (Sovereign King) chosen by ancestral protocol to restore the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi.

He called upon the world’s true leaders to stand against corruption and lead the way to aloha, declaring that Hawaiʻi is the breath and spirit of God and that the Kingdom’s purpose is to be a force for good.

This heartfelt letter is a reminder that even in loss, the spirit of Lahaina endures. The King’s words restore hope, calling the Hawaiian people to rise in unity, remember their sacred heritage, and walk forward in peace.
