From the desk of the KING:
The Kingdom of Hawaiʻi has reaffirmed its enduring commitment to truth, righteousness, and unity through a historic proclamation declaring the Law of Aloha as the supreme foundation of justice. This guiding principle, deeply rooted in Hawaiian tradition and spirituality, now stands at the heart of governance and law for the restored Kingdom of Hawaiʻi.
Aloha is more than a greeting—it is a sacred principle embodying compassion, respect, justice, and harmony. The proclamation emphasizes that laws rooted in aloha will not only protect individual rights but also ensure the greater health and welfare of the people. This echoes the Hawaiian legal maxim Kanawai Kiekie o ka ʻĀina, meaning “the welfare and health of the people shall be the supreme law.”
By embracing aloha as the highest principle of justice, the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi aligns governance with spiritual integrity, ancestral wisdom, and natural law. This integration ensures that the well-being of the land and its people will remain inseparable from the pursuit of justice.
The Kingdom of Hawaiʻi continues its journey of restoration following the unlawful overthrow of 1893. In the words of King Kamehameha III—Ua mau ke ea o ka ʻāina i ka pono (“the life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness”)—justice and sovereignty are inseparably tied to righteousness.
The current proclamation builds upon that historic declaration by reaffirming aloha as the Kingdom’s central pillar of law and governance. It also extends beyond national borders, offering a model of Indigenous justice for the world rooted in harmony with God, nature, and humanity.
The Law of Aloha now serves as the guiding foundation for the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi Supreme Court, the International Indigenous Criminal Courts (IICC), and the International Indigenous Court of Justice (IICJ). Judges, advocates, and officers are called to uphold aloha in every decision, ensuring fairness, compassion, and dignity for all people.
This framework does more than restore Hawaiian governance—it sets a precedent for Indigenous nations worldwide, demonstrating how spiritual principles can serve as the highest form of justice.
The Kingdom of Hawaiʻi’s proclamation is both a national renewal and a universal invitation. By declaring aloha the foundation of justice, Hawaiʻi offers the world a vision of governance rooted in compassion, reconciliation, and respect for creation.
As the proclamation reminds us, to live by aloha is to live in harmony—with one another, with the land, and with God. In this spirit, the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi shines as a beacon of righteous governance, honoring its past while guiding the future of its people and all nations.
