From the desk of the KING:

A Royal New Year Message of Sovereignty

The Hawaiian Kingdom’s New Year Resolution declares: live the reality of independence. King Edmund Silva Jr. affirms sovereignty and unity in 2022.

On January 1, 2022, the Kingdom of Hawai‘i issued a powerful Royal New Year Announcement from the desk of Ali‘i Nui Mō‘ī Edmund Keli‘i Paki-Silva Jr. The proclamation declared not just hope for a blessed and prosperous new year, but a clear directive to the Hawaiian people: “Live the reality of independence.”

The message reaffirms that the Kingdom of Hawai‘i is already sovereign, recognized under international law, and never legally annexed as part of the United States.

A Sovereign Nation Already Restored

In his statement, the King reminded the lāhui (the nation) that independence was declared in 2002 and continues to stand. The Apology Bill (U.S. Public Law 103-150) already acknowledges the unlawful overthrow of 1893. Under international law, the only remedy is restitution, not continued occupation.

The King emphasized that Hawai‘i meets all the criteria of a sovereign state under the Montevideo Convention — a permanent population, defined territory, functioning government, and the ability to enter into relations with other nations

.

His message was clear: “We are already a Sovereign Nation. Be the nation. Live the reality.”

Wisdom, Truth, and Courage for the Nation

The announcement called for the people of Hawai‘i to embrace their role in sovereignty:

  • Act with wisdom and kindness, even in difficult times.
  • Reject the “convenient truth” that has long been used to justify U.S. rule over Hawai‘i.
  • Honor the words of Queen Lili‘uokalani and Kamehameha I, who both urged courage, justice, and the defense of the nation’s values.

The King urged the people to live fearlessly as Kanaka Maoli, the original people of the Kingdom of Hawai‘i, and to uphold the traditions and ancestral guidance that define the Hawaiian nation.

A Call to Live the Reality of Independence

In closing, the Royal New Year Resolution issued a call to action:

  • Stand up for truth and justice.
  • Carry the Hawaiian flag throughout the islands.
  • Live daily life as citizens of a free and sovereign nation.

The King declared: “We are FREE from the United States of America. That day is soon.”

This message is not just ceremonial — it is a rallying cry for Hawai‘i to walk boldly into its restored sovereignty.

Looking Ahead

The Hawaiian Kingdom’s New Year Resolution is both a vision and a challenge. It affirms that Hawai‘i’s sovereignty is alive, rooted in law, ancestry, and divine duty. And it reminds the people that independence is not a distant hope — it is a present reality waiting to be lived.
