Ke Kuhina Aliʻi o ka Hoʻokumu Waiwai, ka Noho Hale, a me ka Hoʻomohala Kaiāulu

Royal Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing, and Community Development

“Building strong foundations for a resilient, dignified, and thriving Hawaiʻi.”

It's all in the name. Here’s the breakdown of the Hawaiian Ministry name:

* Ke Kuhina Aliʻi – Royal Minister / Royal Ministry
* Hoʻokumu Waiwai – Infrastructure (literally foundation/resources/establishment”)
* Noho Hale – Housing (dwelling in homes)
* Hoʻomohala Kaiāulu – Community Development

RESILIENT INFRASTRUCTURE

HOUSING WITH DIGNITY

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

His Majesty often admits with a smile that he can never quite remember the full title of The Royal Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing, and Community Development. To him, it’s simply “The Ministry of Development—the one with the really long name I can’t remember.” In doing so, the King reminds us that while official titles may be long, the mission is simple: to build, to house, and to strengthen the communities of Hawaiʻi.

Ministry Priorities

Resilient Infrastructure
  • Strengthen transportation, water, and energy systems to withstand natural disasters and climate impacts.
  • Deliver projects on time and on budget through performance-based procurement.
  • Promote workforce development and ensure safety on every job site.
Housing with Dignity
  • Expand access to affordable and workforce housing with simplified permitting and clear accountability.
  • Accelerate disaster recovery efforts through effective reconstruction and rehabilitation programs.
  • Collaborate with counties, nonprofits, and builders to scale impact.

Community Development

  • Administer transparent, data-backed grants that revitalize small towns and neighborhoods.
  • Champion place-based investments tailored to local needs.
  • Build public trust through measurable outcomes and responsible stewardship.
