Today, HRM Edmund K. Silva Jr., Sovereign King of the Kingdom of Hawai‘i, released a commentary on the scientific information surrounding COVID-19 vaccines and the possible issues they may pose to humankind. Speaking not as a physician but as a leader and concerned citizen, Silva urged people everywhere to research deeply, ask questions, and approach the issue with both wisdom and courage.
The King opened by acknowledging the vast amount of conflicting information. On one side are government and media assurances that the vaccines are safe and effective; on the other are warnings from respected global scientists, Nobel Prize winners, and physicians who raise serious questions about the long-term effects of the vaccines.
Silva’s commentary focuses on several key areas of concern:
While acknowledging the potential benefits of vaccines, Silva emphasized that “potential good and potential harm are often nestled together. Time will tell which direction the path follows, but it must surely choose only one way.”
Ultimately, his message was not one of fear, but of responsibility. He called upon people to study, think critically, and make their own informed choices—free from political pressure or government mandates.
“Be thoughtful. Take time to consider your mana‘o,” Silva wrote. “It is your personal right to make your own decision for you, your spouse, and your children.”
The King closed with a sober reminder, "The future depends not only on medical science, but on the courage of individuals to question, research, and protect their freedom of choice."
Aloha ke Akua.
